holoride revealed on Wednesday it had launched its virtual reality (VR) gaming and entertainment platform in Germany, leading to in-vehicle immersive experience for Audi motor vehicles.
The German enterprise aims to open sales in mid-November as an add-on package for car buyers, providing consumers with an industry-first immersive gaming experience.
The announcement comes months after the firm trialled its entertainment system with Pico Interactive headsets, leading to years of development of the groundbreaking immersive platform.
The Metaverse Meets the ‘Motorverse’
The platform uses “elastic content” complete with real-time vehicle data for VR devices in what it calls the Motorverse, or always-in-motion VR capable of reacting to car motion and location.
The news comes after holoride debuted its partnership with Audi at multiple events such as the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2019, the IAA Mobility 2021 expo, and SXSW 2022.
Nils Wollny, Chief Executive and Co-Founder for holoride, said in a statement,
“Despite amazing advances in automotive technology over the last few decades, passenger experience and in-car entertainment has remained largely the same. With the introduction of holoride, we are not only elevating that stale experience; we are redefining how you spend your time on the go.”
Giorgio Delucchi, Audi’s Head of Digital Experience and Business, added that the holoride integrations in Audi vehicles were “redefining in-car entertainment.”
He continued, stating,
“Through combining real-time vehicle data and virtual content, we’re creating an entirely new customer experience. A crucial cornerstone of the vehicle’s digitalization is developing the interior into a third living space. In this very personal space, living and working coalesce. holoride is another proof point in our roadmap”
Users of the new entertainment system can test the Cloudbreakers: Leaving Haven game from Schell Games, produced with Superconductor, Justin Lin’s (Fast & Furious) creative agency.
Anthony and Joe Russo, who created the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Netflix’s The Gray Man, respectively, served as holoride advisors.
Force Multiplier Studios writers Brent Friedman and Jeremy Breslau also developed the game’s story using holoride’s Elastic Content from its Elastic software development kit (SDK).
What’s in the Bag?
holoride’s system reduces motion sickness by incorporating steering, braking, and acceleration data, creating an immersive experience that flows with the vehicle’s movement with near-zero latency.
The Pioneers’ Pack retails for €699 and is available in Germany at holoride’s website from Wednesday.
The package includes the following:
- HTC VIVE Flow’s lightweight, comfortable VR smart goggles
- 8BitDo Pro 2 Gamepad, for controlling VR experiences with a classic design
- Safety Strap for extra safety in accidents or unexpected situations
- One year holoride subscription, valued at €19,99 a month or €14.99 a month for a year
- Cloudbreakers: Leaving Haven video game along with holoride’s catalogue of entertainment
holoride is compatible with the Audi A4 – A8 and Q5 – Q8 models, Audi e-tron, e-tron Sportback, and e-tron GT. It also plans to expand to the US in early 2023 and later, to European and Asian markets.
